I participated in Jonathan's podcast and was made better for it. We dish on "Street Angel," a silent film from 1928. The film is presented with the original synchronized orchestral score and sound effects, not to mention mood-capturing and plot-furthering narrative executed by intermittent slides. Premise: Award-winning actress, Janet Gaynor, who is luminous here, plays a poor Neapolitan girl, desperate to acquire medication for her ailing mother, comes into conflict with the police and finds refuge with a traveling circus. She meets a painter who falls in love with her but is unaware of her recent troubles with the law. -
