It is officially Christmas week. Before I jump into the full digest, please take a moment to vote for your favorite films of the year. Once we get these nominations done, I’ll be dropping a post later this week or early next to let folks vote on the final nominees, just like the actual Academy members.
Happy Holidays!
Once more, I want to with a Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to everyone who reads The Oscar Project. If you’re new here, please take a moment to enter your email below and subscribe and think of it as your Christmas present to me. If you’re a long time reader and need a last minute gift for a movie lover in your life, consider gifting a paid subscription of the newsletter to them (or even treat yourself if all your other shopping is done).
And now, on to the digest.
Weekly Preview
Last week was the first of two weeks where we have a bunch of new movies, many of which are major awards contenders. Last weekend we saw the last two big family movies of the year and I’m hoping to have a review of Sonic 3 dropping sometime this week. For all the latest releases, check out this post from last Thursday.
Reviews
No new reviews this week, but like I said above, I’m planning on dropping a Sonic 3 review this week as well as a War of the Rohirrim review and at least one classic film review of some older films I’ve been watching lately for a side project. (Yes, there are side quests on the main Oscar Project journey)
Podcast
Interviews are done for the year, but like so many other publications, I’m working on year end recaps and such. Those will be dropping this week in the podcast feed, but last week I had a brief shortlist reaction episode and a wonderful conversation with
about the year 2024 in documentaries. Be sure to check both of those out while you’re wrapping presents or doing your last minute shopping.Awards Coverage
The Oscar shortlists took a bit of a priority last week and I wasn’t able to follow up on the other announced nominations. Last night we also had the Kennedy Center Honors which took a back seat to playing Santa (or perhaps more accurately playing Santa’s elves) and wrapping presents for the family. I hope to have a recap post of all the guild nominations so far coming to you later this week, perhaps Thursday since my normal Thursday slot for my weekly preview won’t happen since the new releases will already be out on Wednesday.
